Outside of the main urban areas, a lack of trained healthcare workers, fewer doctors and hospitals make it difficult for low income families to access healthcare and medical screening facilities. Even those who can afford these services often face challenges due to the lack of available infrastructure.
- Even those who can afford medical care in non-urban areas often find there are no or very limited services available due to the infrastructure challenges.
-
A lack of hospitals, doctors and trained manpower in non-urban areas combined with the cost of healthcare create significant barriers to access. These issues can be further complicated by issues such as female patients being reluctant to see male medical professionals.
-
Realistic affordability window for a large segment of the population is low. Providing normal medical services outside of urban centres creates high costs. The alternative for customers is to travel which adds significant cost and friction in long journeys and the loss of income with time away from work.
- Many citizens in non-urban areas are unaware of initial symptoms and warning signs of important conditions. They are often unable to access education sources, screening facilities and treatment centres and may be unaware of where to look for help even when conditions develop.
